About the project
The purpose of the project Open Data is to realize the road map that the industry developed when working on the joint industry initiative “Kraftsamling öppna trafikdata” in 2017. The project is being conducted to benefit the emergence of multimodal mobility services in Sweden, while also providing the conditions for transport actors to comply with EU regulations.
The project “Kraftsamling öppna trafikdata” identified a number of different types of data that are particularly important to make accessible in order for third-party developers to be able to develop new and smart multimodal mobility services. The project Open Data is estimated to carry on until 2022 and the goal is to gradually make the different data sets available via Sweden's national community for public transport data – Trafiklab.
The aim of the project is to develop and implement a new digital infrastructure for the collection, aggregation, conversion and accessibility of public transport data. Both regional public transport authorities as well as commercial transport actors are included in the project.
Some of the most important results that the project is expected to deliver are the following:
- Making more open data sets available which will enable the development of new traffic information services
- Increased quality and level of detail, and a larger range of collected transport data
- Enabling compliance with the legal requirements of EU regulation 2017/1926
- Decreased development costs for traffic information and ticketing services for the industry
The project's steering group is made up of representatives with different backgrounds from both the public and private sector. They bring both valuable knowledge and experience from the public transport industry to the project.
The following participating organizations are represented in the steering group for the Open Data project:
- SL (Region Stockholm)
- UL (Region Uppsala)
- Jönköpings länstrafik
